Little known but fun & free mmorpgs!

Ultima Online Private Servers by EA Games

One of the oldest mmorpgs on the internet and still one of the best, Ultima Online is a must play for all serious rpgers. With tons of different skills to chose from and an exciting PVP system, player owned houses, guild houses, hundreds of dungeons and strong playerbase, Ultima Online is one mmorpg that everyone should try at least once. Luckily, UO is available for free through privately owned servers by using a regular game installation along with a private server browsing software such as UOGateway or ConnectUO. One of my favorite private servers is ABCUO because of the number of fun mods installed that improve gameplay while keeping things challenging.

Dungeon Runners by NCSoft

Dungeon Runners is the newest mmorpg creation of NCSoft, creator of such games as Lineage I and II and City of Heroes. Dungeon runners is not your everyday hack and slash mmorpg (but its still a hack and slash!). Imagine taking 1 part Diablo 2, 1 part World Of Warcraft and 3 parts twisted humor and you've got yourself one heck of a timewaster of mmorpg. While the character selection is quite limited (Warrior, Mage, Archer) , and the spells and skills are lacking, Dungeon Runners is a sure bet for a lazy summer afternoon if only for the fact thats its FREE and makes fun of Blizzard's mmorpg giant World of Warcraft.

Anarchy Online by Funcom

Suffering from a difficult launch back in 2001, Anarchy Online has emerged from the rubble to become of the best mmorpgs on the internet. Anarchy Online is best described as a futuristic/sci-fi/corporations at war type of mmorpg. With a wide range of skills and professions to choose from this mmorpg will keep you busy for quite a while. While the learning curve is a bit steep at first, the satisfaction once you've grasped the game is truly rewarding. A unique mmorg experience, Anarchy Online Classic is now availabe to play for free! (expansions are extra). The PVP system is well-thought out and team-based missions are a blast.
